Offender Health Research

Researchers in the Department of Public Health are working on a number of research projects related to the health of offenders. They are working collaboratively with the Department of Psychiatry (University of Oxford), the NHS, Her Majesty’s Prison Service and the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales.

Projects include:

  • IDEA (Inclusion for Dangerous and severe personality disorder: Evaluating Assessment and treatment) Led by Professor Tom Burns, Department of Psychiatry.

  • A critical review of outcome measures for use in forensic mental health studies. Led by Professor Ray Fitzpatrick, Department of Public Health

  • A health needs assessment for young women in Young Offender Institutions. Led by Dr Emma Plugge

  • The Health of Women in Prison Study. Led by Dr Emma Plugge
